Designed by Amri Studio for the "Historic Monument"-designated 1st Presbyterian Church in Oakland, CA. Christina Wallach is known for her rich, fluid and meaningful stained glass religious art. Trained in France at restoring 12th century stained glass such as the national treasure windows from Chartres Cathedral, Christina continued and refined tradition art glass into contemporary forms upon her return to the U.S.
Christina has created and fabricated many large scale and important installations throughout the country. This powerful four-story-tall window, rhythmically based on Hayden's Creation Symphony, depicts the unfurling of the Universe, the fabric of God's garments. The theme of this piece is summed up in a quote from author Annie Dillard,
It could be that God has not absconded but spread, as our vision and understanding of the universe have spread, to a fabric of spirit and sense so grand and subtle, so powerful in a new way, that we can only feel blindly of its hem.
